The good times.

Reg. What can I say, a very dear friend / mate gone but certainly never forgotten. Myself and Jimmy Butterworth first met Reg and John Ball in Swan Lane HindleyvGreen in 1964 out on our bikes. From then on we all jelled for good times ahead. We all and more used to visit the Coffee Bars like the Sorrento, Crown, Expresso and the Carters Arms pub a few doors up. We also went to Lils at Standish and Lewisis at Hindley. Rivington Pike was a favourite for bikers on Goid Friday in fact any nice Sundayfor the ride. We both worked at J & J Hayes together in the 60,s doing different jobs. Moving up in years to 1977 myself John and Reg bought a 1968 Ford Escort van for £10 and a Daimler 2500 cc engine complete with gearbox for £35. We adapted the van to accept the engine which was for Drag Racing up at New York Raceway. When complete we took it to Burtonwood to test it out which proved ok. We booked in for entry on the 7/7/77 that was the date on the scrutieers pass ticket stuck to the windscreen. A date still planted in my head 7/7/77. With Reg driving we did our qualifying runs then when it came down to the final pair our van won its class. After a few week we were invited to Leeds to collect our trophy as it was a dinner and prize awards evening. Quite a few of us used to camp out at Rhyl years ago and Reg after a work shift and me on the back we set off. After a while after Ellesmere Port we were going down a hill with a bend and a bridge looming up but things didn't feel right. Just before the bend I nudged him and on the last minute negotiated the bend. He was falling asleep and to this day he said I saved his life. We also used to go to the Pink Elephant club at Aspull. Ime going to miss Reg a lot as he was a true genuine dear friend. RIP Reg. Safe journey
